Instructions
  1. Wash mushrooms and dice into bite sized pieces.
  2. Cut the onion, green chilli, ginger, and garlic and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai and fry the grated coconut with shallots and curry leaves until the coconut turns dark golden brown in color.
  4. To this add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, pepper powder and coriander powder . Saute well till the raw smell disappears and the masala becomes brown.
  5. Grind well this fried masala into a fine paste and keep aside.
  6. Heat little oil in a pan and saute the mushrooms with greenchilli, ginger, garlic and onion till the onion is translucent.
  7. To this add cut tomato and saute again till tomato is cooked.
  8. Cook in slow heat till mushrooms are cooked.
  9. To this add the ground masala, mix well, add salt and curry leaves and cook keeping covered for 5 minutes till oil floats on top.
  10. Remove from the stove.
Recipe Notes

The mushrooms should be fresh. You can add little tamarind juice to the cooked mushroom and make this into a theeyal.

    Nice one and really great.. do we need to add curry leaves to the masala in step three. Its saying to add curry leaves in step nine as well. thanks for the recipe

    Yes we add twice. Step three we are frying with the coconut and this gives a unique taste and flavor. After frying we are grinding it. Step nine we are adding just to get the raw curry leaf flavor which is great for any Indian curries..
