Instructions
  1. Puttu mixture: Mix salt with water and add this little by little to the puttu mixture until the puttu consistency is obtained. keep it covered for 10 minutes for the mixture to become soft.
  2. Shred the boneless chicken and marinate with salt and turmeric powder and keep aside for 30 minutes.
  3. Cut shallots, green chillies, ginger, garlic and curry leaves into very small pieces. Fry these cut vegetables in oil till the shallot turns slightly golden brown in color.
  4. Now add the tomato cut finely and stir well and cook till tomato is cooked. Add coriander powder, chilli powder, pepper powder into this and fry till the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add the marinated chicken pieces, mix well and keep in sim to get the chicken cooked in the water from the chicken. Once the chicken is cooked and dry keep aside.
  6. Take the puttu mould ( small round mould gives a good shape to puttu. With this mould you can cook on pressure cooker.) and put a layer of coconut in the bottom, then add one handful of the prepared puttu powder, on top of this add a portion of the prepared chicken pieces. add again one more layer of a handful of puttu powder and on top layer it with coconut again. steam in a puttu maker.
  7. Once the steam starts escaping through the holes of the mould keep the flame in sim and cook for 5 minutes. Take out from the mould and remove into a plate. Your puttu is ready. Like this repeat until the puttu powder and chicken are over.
Recipe Notes

Steaming for 4 to 5 minutes gives puttu softness. Instead of raw rice if puttu is made with boiled rice soaked, ground, and fried, your puttu will be soft next day also.
